Conductor                 Brian Lynn

The overture tells the story of Robert Burn's Tam O'Shanter and his evening in the pub that ends with him watching a witches' party on the way home before being chased off by the devil.  Malcolm Arnold captures all the moods of the evening in his affectionate tribute to a rather confused night out.

For the concerto we are delighted to welcome our very own principal clarinet, Susan Moss, for a performance of Gerald Finzi's beautifully lyrical clarinet concerto, written for solo clarinet and strings.  Our concert ends with Dvorak's sixth symphony which established him as one of the great symphonists.  Alternately lyrical and lively, it is full of exciting Czech folk rhythms and dances. We are delighted to welcome Brian Lynn as our guest conductor for this evening.
